Description
Travel/Contract Therapy/Rehabilitation Position
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Job Overview
- Acute care setting with an average daily census of 12-16 patients
- Staffing ratio: 1:1
- Patient diagnoses include:
- Multi trauma
- CVA/stroke
- Neurological conditions
- Post-op orthopedic surgery
- No modality skills or prosthetic experience required
- Basic orthotic and splinting skills are a plus but not mandatory
- Unit accepts first-time travelers and requires a minimum of 1 year of specialty experience
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation
- Required years of experience: 1 year
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
- Louisiana State License
- NBCOT (National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy)
Important Job Conditions
- Position is in a hurricane-prone area (June 1 - Nov 30 is hurricane season, but storms can occur outside this window)
- Upon storm occurrence, may be assigned to an "Emergency Team" with expectation to stay onsite until the storm passes or be part of the relief team
- Candidates should be comfortable with emergency preparedness and potential extended onsite stays during storms
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required)
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification of highest level completed (if no state license)
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (for specific departments)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation
- Flu vaccination or approved declination/exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)
- Photo for badge (passport-style, recent, color) within 24 hours of booking
- Skills checklist and employment application required, including 7 years employment history and explanation of gaps
Additional Notes
- No prosthetic experience required
- Basic orthotic and splinting skills are a plus
- Unit is open to first-time travelers
- Emergency preparedness and willingness to stay onsite during hurricanes is mandatory
This position is ideal for a Therapy/Rehabilitation professional with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable working in an acute care setting in a hurricane-prone region and is willing to participate in emergency response efforts.
