Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MS/Telemetry Unit

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)


Position Details

  • Unit: MS/Telemetry – 2 East Clinical Decision Unit
  • Start Date: Next applicable orientation date (3-4 weeks out)
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 18 months tele/acute care experience required
    • 2 years preferred
    • PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience required
    • Must have vasoactive drip experience
  • First-timers accepted: Yes
  • Certifications Required at Time of Submission:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) – must be obtained prior to start
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to all 3 hospitals within 20 miles
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, locals receive same rate
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Guaranteed Hours:
    • 36 hours for 3x12-hour shifts
    • 40 hours for 8/10-hour shifts
  • Special Requirements:
    • Time-sensitive online modules must be prioritized and completed promptly once assignment is confirmed
    • Smoke-free facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10 panel drug screen + nicotine test required)

Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)

Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA provider card or RQI acceptable; instructor card not accepted)
  • BLS (AHA provider card or RQI acceptable; instructor card not accepted)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual completion required)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) during orientation (2 attempts allowed per test)
  • State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification for RNs within 30 days of start
  • Other certifications as applicable to specialty/unit

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen plus Nicotine test within 1 year of start (drug screen does not require annual update)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination (required during flu season; medical/religious exemptions allowed)
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required

Other Requirements

  • 2 professional references within 2 years of start (for travel, allied, per diem, and acute care system positions)
  • Employment application required
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA compliance)
  • Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on phone)

Notes

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; late requests are unlikely to be approved
  • Candidates must be nicotine-free; no exceptions
  • Modules and onboarding process may take multiple days and are mandatory before starting
  • Floating may require working at multiple nearby hospitals within 20 miles
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting and requires white scrubs

This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry and PCU experience who are comfortable with vasoactive drips and working in a teaching hospital environment. Compliance with all certifications, background checks, and health requirements is mandatory.
