Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Dayton, Ohio

Job Details

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Step-Down (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) required. ICU experience does not count towards SD/PCU experience.
  • Level: Some level 1 or 2 preferred.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required.

Key Job Requirements

  • Must have EPIC experience.
  • Must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting.
  • Certifications required: BLS and NIH Stroke Certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips.
  • IV start skills required.
  • Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the HRRU unit unless PAPR is offered/needed.
  • Targeted patient ratios: 1:5 to 1:6.
  • Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
  • Floating: Traveler will float at Premier's discretion, potentially between multiple campuses within 15 miles.
  • Premier Health reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census and may cancel the agreement with 2 weeks' notice without fee or fine.
  • Travelers are not eligible for Premier Health employee incentives.

Unit Details

  • Unit: Advanced Care Unit
  • Typical Patients: Heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure patients, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal.
  • Skills: Competency to run IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.
  • Daily Average Census: 31 patients
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required within 12 months prior to start)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
  • Competency Exams:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must be passed within 1 year prior to start or within 72 hours of contract signing; 3 attempts max)
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 2 years)
    • Unit-specific Competency Exam (within 2 years)

Licensure & Verification

  • Ohio nursing license required with primary source verification.
  • NURSYS verification required.
  • Current resume/application required.
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year prior to documentation due date and updated annually.
  • 2 professional references required (1 must be Manager/Supervisor/Charge RN) or 1-year work history verification if references are unavailable.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 2 years, indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
  • Required vaccinations or immunity attestations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date; must include marijuana panel.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start and renewed annually.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG required.
  • Fingerprinting not required unless working in specific units (NICU, Pediatrics, Elderly care, Pharmacy Techs, pain management clinics).

Additional Requirements

  • Pass medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation.
  • Must complete EKG tele competency assessment before starting.
  • Must be available for floating assignments as needed.
  • Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.

This position is ideal for RNs with Step-Down or PCU experience looking for a 13-week travel contract in the Dayton, Ohio area with a reputable health system. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
