Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist (Travel/Contract)

Location: River Falls, Wisconsin
Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation (Occupational Therapy)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Responsible for outpatient orthopedic, neurological, and acute care patients in a regional hospital setting.
  • Some hand therapy responsibilities, but less emphasis.
  • Acute care comprises 30%+ of workload.
  • Work with a team of 7 Physical Therapists and 1 Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
  • No weekend or on-call requirements.
  • Floating within scope as needed to meet facility needs.
  • Block scheduling accommodations available.
  • Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted.
  • Pending license candidates accepted.
  • Return to work restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Occupational Therapy experience required.
  • First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required).
  • Certifications required:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Minnesota OT License (pending license accepted)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number required.

Facility & Work Environment

  • Outpatient Rehabilitation facility with 56 staffed beds.
  • Charting system: Epic (Excellian).
  • Free parking available.
  • Facility is latex-free.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check required within 1 year of start date (7-year standard MN statewide search).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year of start.
  • Fingerprinting via Minnesota DHS Net Study required before start; candidates cannot start with fingerprints pending unless a specific exemption letter is provided.
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without exemption approval)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 12 months)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required)
    • Hepatitis B (proof of immunity or vaccination series)
    • Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination series)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-26 season (declinations accepted)
  • Drug testing not required for client clearance but must be within 1 year if done.
  • OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start (RespSafety virtual questionnaire).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable; certificate of completion not accepted).
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, and other certifications as applicable per unit/job description.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific pre-orientation modules required within 72 hours of receiving login credentials (3-9 hours depending on specialty).
  • Badge photo (passport style) required within 48 hours of signing contract.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete the Minnesota DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after signing contract to initiate fingerprinting.
  • Candidates may need to travel to a livescan location for fingerprinting if not within driving distance of a Minnesota site.
  • Candidates with latex allergy should be aware the facility is latex-free.
  • References are not required for client clearance and will not delay start.
  • Locals within 100 miles are not accepted for this position.

This position is ideal for Occupational Therapists with at least 2 years of experience looking for a travel contract in outpatient rehab with a mix of ortho, neuro, and acute care patients. First-time travelers are welcome.
