Description

Registered Nurse - Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) Travel Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU)
  • Shift: Day/Night rotation, every other weekend
  • Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), approximately 36 hours per week
  • On-Call: Required
  • Patient Ratio: Estimated 1:1-2
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 3 years Neuro ICU experience (highest required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - AHA only
  • Skills Required:
    • IV Start
    • Telemetry
    • Ventilator management
    • Intracranial Pressure Monitoring
  • EHR Experience: Epic

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required prior to start, with specific Ohio codes and timelines
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Annual background check required by Aya Healthcare
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Aya candidates only)
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions apply)

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership)
  • Employment application including education verification
  • Skills checklist required
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies and training
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment annually

Notes

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed between 2/15/26 and 2/28/26
  • Floating may include units with equivalent or lower acuity
  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized Neuro Critical Care Unit with a supportive patient ratio and a dynamic schedule. Candidates must meet strict compliance and certification requirements to ensure quality patient care and facility standards.
