Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Beds: 22 (16 rooms)
• Average Daily Census: 20
• Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
• Common Diagnoses: Burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery (flaps, grafts, leech therapy), urology, gynecology, ENT, oral/maxillofacial surgeries
• Special Procedures: Burn dressings, flap checks, leech therapy
• Systems Used: EPIC (documentation), Pyxis (medication)
• Support Services: IV/pharmacy, respiratory, physical therapy, social work, transport, rapid response

Shift Information

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other/third weekend coverage required
• Floating within the hospital system required

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of recent PCU nursing experience with a similar patient population
• Previous charge RN experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific)
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
• License verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required for RNs
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Immunizations and health documentation:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption possible)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Competency Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
• Unit-specific competency exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions apply)

Additional Requirements

• 2 professional references required, including at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership role
• Employment application and skills checklist required
• Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
• Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Notes

• No return to office (RTO) will be accepted between 2/15/26 and 2/28/26
• Fingerprinting must be completed using Ohio BCI & FBI codes with strict timelines and procedures
• Floating within the hospital system is mandatory
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

This position is ideal for experienced PCU Registered Nurses comfortable with adult and geriatric patient populations, complex wound care, and working in a teaching hospital environment.
