Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics Therapist
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Evening/Night shifts (8 or 12 hours)
- Shift times: 1500-2330, 1900-0730, and 2300-0730
- Every other weekend, holidays, and one call shift every 6 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years as a staff respiratory therapist (higher value confirmed)
- Pediatric and adult experience preferred
- Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma center or similar size hospital required
- Prior travel experience highly preferred (indicates prior travel experience is required)
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited Respiratory Therapy program required
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in Wisconsin upon hire required
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential by NBRC required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by NBRC required
- BLS certification through American Heart Association required
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care
- Provide aerosolized medication, volume expansion, airway clearance techniques, tracheostomy care, and sputum inductions
- Manage non-invasive ventilation, high flow, and mechanical ventilation at Intermediate Care (IMC) and ICU levels
- Work closely with physicians, care team leaders, nurses, and families to develop and evaluate patient care plans

- Facility is a Magnet®-designated Level 1 Trauma Center, ranked #1 hospital in Wisconsin
- Primary work site is University Hospital in Madison, WI
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the work site
- Floating required: travelers may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
- Parking permit required for onsite parking; alternative transportation options available
Required Certifications & Compliance
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- CRT and RRT credentials (NBRC)
- Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner license
- Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific caregiver screening (WI)
- Drug screening per facility and agency standards
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
- Varicella vaccination or exemption
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if applicable)
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Facility-specific telemetry exams (Adult and Pediatric) with strict passing criteria and remediation process
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication as required
- Education verification for respiratory therapy program graduation
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
- Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments required prior to start
- Compliance with all background checks and credential verifications mandatory before start date
This position offers the opportunity to work in a top-ranked academic medical center with a diverse patient population and advanced respiratory care technologies. Prior travel experience is highly preferred, and candidates must meet strict licensure, certification, and compliance requirements.
