Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN)
Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to like units or sister facilities
- First-time travelers: Accepted
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years
- License: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
- Special Requirements:
- Telemetry competency required
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Community hospital experience preferred

Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block Schedule: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November (peak in August-September)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Required (diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder)
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam updated annually
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
- Immunizations: Tdap (within 10 years or declination), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titers or vaccines with boosters if needed), Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccines highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and general competency exams required
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
Certifications Notes
- BLS: AHA certification required, must be valid beyond 30 days of start
- ACLS: AHA certification required, valid beyond 30 days of start
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and preferred for MS/Tele units
- Other Certifications: PALS, TNCC, NRP, EFM as applicable based on unit (not required for this position)
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4-6 hours for this location
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo required before start
- Facility Specific Documents: Job description acknowledgment required prior to start
- Fit Mask: Fit testing done onsite during orientation; facial hair must be trimmed/shaved prior
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
- Floating between units is expected within the scope of practice.
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with approval but is not guaranteed.
This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in medical-surgical or telemetry nursing, who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license, and possess required certifications. The role involves day shifts with every other weekend work and no on-call duties. Telemetry competency and prior charge nurse experience are preferred.
