Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Must be flexible with weekend requirements; expected to work 50% of weekends during the contract.
- Refusal to float may result in contract termination.
- Teaching facility: travel nurses may be required to precept or have students shadow them.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Trauma Level I experience required.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Locals are not accepted.
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with training and resources provided.
- Floating to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) may be required.
- Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients.
Unit Information
- Progressive care unit focusing on cardiovascular diagnoses such as congestive heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, infective endocarditis, and other co-morbidities.
- Care for patients post-cath lab procedures, prior to LVAD placements, heart/lung transplants, and pre-valve replacement.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred

Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience (highest requirement noted).
- Trauma Level I experience required.
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.
Important Notes
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at these facilities except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
- Must agree to possibility of precepting and/or being assigned students.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
- Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification.
- Drug screening (10 panel, negative within 12 months).
- Physical exam within 12 months.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required).
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam.
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles.
- Skills checklist within 12 months, completed annually.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance forms required prior to start.
Floating & Staffing
- Floating to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU units may be required.
- Staffing ratio is 1:4.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with trauma level I experience who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment with cardiovascular patient care focus.
