Description

Registered Nurse - Critical Care Float Pool (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Weekend Day shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
  • Role involves floating across various ICUs based on staffing and patient acuity, including:
    • Neuro ICU
    • Surgical ICUs
    • Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
    • Cardiology/Diagnostics
    • CVICU
    • SICU / MICU / NCCU
  • Nurses must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - required for most ICU, PCU, and ED units
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Skills:
    • IV Start
    • Telemetry
    • Ventilator management experience
  • Prior travel nursing experience is strongly preferred (not explicitly required but highly valued)

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Certification
    • State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
    • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
    • Unit-Specific Competency Exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually, with remediation process if failed)

Health & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually

Shift Details

  • Weekend shifts only
  • 3 shifts per weekend, 12 hours each

This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic critical care float pool environment with exposure to multiple ICU specialties, requiring strong critical care skills and flexibility.
