Description
Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Specialty: Surgical Services
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Role primarily in CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) and general surgical cases: approximately 80% generalist cases and 20% CVOR cases.
- Work schedule: Day/Evening shifts, 8 or 10 hours, Monday through Friday (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) with weeknight, weekend, and holiday on-call requirements.
- Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, promoting patient safety during surgery, assisting surgeons, caring for patients and surgical instruments.
- Patient population includes all age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric scrub experience or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong skills desired in Eyes, Urology, Neuro, and Orthopedics.
Education & Certification
- Completion of a surgical technologist program OR two years’ experience in a Surgical Technologist role may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- BLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
Licensure & Compliance
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
- Background checks and verifications required, including:
- Criminal background check within 90 days prior to start.
- Education verification if surgical technologist program completed.
- State-specific caregiver screening (Wisconsin).
- Required certifications and competencies must be current and compliant with facility standards.
Required Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - check unit description if required
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - check unit description if required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - if applicable
- National certification for Surgical Tech preferred but not required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (one adult dose required, 10-year update not mandatory).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; medical or religious exemptions considered.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; medical or religious exemptions considered.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination required if providing direct patient care or exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season.
- Drug screening required per facility and agency standards.
Additional Information
- Facility is a Magnet®-designated pediatric medical and surgical center with a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU.
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available.
- Strict compliance with facility-specific testing and competency exams (e.g., telemetry tests for applicable roles).
- Signed acknowledgments for safety manuals and pass/fail testing may be required.
