Description

Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Jefferson, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Job Details

  • Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1
  • Call Requirement: As needed, with a 30-minute callback
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Float Requirement: None
  • Scheduling Type: Set schedule
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs Provided

Patient Diagnoses

  • Appendicitis
  • Bowel obstructions
  • Cholecystitis
  • Ureteral stones
  • Orthopedic patients
  • Ophthalmic patients
  • GYN/OB

Specialty Skills & Procedures

  • Experience in General OR or similar settings
  • Procedures include:
    • Colonoscopy, EGD
    • Laparoscopic-assisted surgeries (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair)
    • Abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy
    • Bilateral tubal ligation
    • C-sections
    • Dilation & Curettage
    • Cataract extraction/implant, vitrectomy
    • Orthopedic procedures: ACL reconstruction, arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reductions, total joint replacement
    • Cystoscopy, ureteral stents, prostate biopsy
    • Administration of blood products, cardiac monitoring, conscious sedation monitoring
    • Infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling
    • Starting peripheral IVs, universal protocol (time out) procedure
    • PACU (post-anesthesia care unit) recovery

Preferred Skills:

  • Ambulatory OR experience
  • Bronchoscopy, PEG tube placement/exchange
  • Scrub experience in endoscopic, general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic, urology surgeries
  • Emergency management including fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia
  • Steris, laser safety, wound management

Equipment & Systems

  • Stryker orthopedic equipment
  • Olympus laparoscopic equipment
  • Fuji endoscopy system
  • Unit systems: Meditech and Omnicell (medication, documentation, communication)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background checks within 90 days of start (local, federal, national databases, sex offender search)
  • Education verification for highest degree earned specific to nursing profession
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel negative screen required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training as applicable)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B titer or facility-specific declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blind testing within 1 year
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must pass with 82% or higher, with remediation process if needed)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
  • Confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, tobacco-free campus acknowledgment
  • Badge photo submission (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Corp ID setup and I-Learn account activation within 24 hours of receiving email
  • Medication safety training module completion with certificate submission
  • Physical and health documents uploaded and current
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care nurses

  • No float or extended call requirements
  • Every other weekend work required
  • Scrubs provided
  • Set schedule with day shift only
  • Prior travel experience not required

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience in general OR or related surgical settings, comfortable with a variety of surgical procedures and patient populations, and able to work a consistent day shift schedule with some weekend coverage.
