Job Opportunity: Radiology / Cardiology Travel Contract

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

This is a travel contract position providing local float coverage between two clinical sites in the Wilmington, NC Coastal Region. The role involves working with advanced radiation oncology equipment and supporting outpatient adult patients with various cancer diagnoses.


Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (minimum)

  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted

  • Skills:

    • Adult Outpatient Radiation Therapy
    • Tumor Localization
    • CBCT/kV/mV imaging
    • External Beam Therapy
    • IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy)
    • Respiratory Gating
    • Use of Varian TrueBeam, Tomo Therapy, ARIA, Vision systems
    • Radiation Safety and Chart Check
    • Experience with benign and malignant tumors including brain, prostate, pancreatic, testicular, Hodgkin’s and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, breast, lung, skin, and others
  • Certifications Required:

    • ARRT (Therapy)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Preferred Certification:

    • ARRT (Radiography)

Work Schedule & Details

  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Shift: Staggered 4x10 hour shifts (varied start times between 7am and 8am)
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5 during day shifts
  • Floating: Required to float between two sites (~30 minutes apart)
  • Weekend Work: Only if machine downtime occurs (rare)
  • Disaster Response: Contract staff may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters as part of Storm/Hurricane Teams

Clinical Environment & Equipment

  • Primary site: 3 Varian linear accelerators and 1 CT simulator
  • Secondary site: 1 Varian TrueBeam and 1 Siemens CT simulator
  • Therapists work in pairs; no solo coverage
  • No responsibility for cutting blocks, performing CT sims alone, or dose calculations
  • Onsite MD and RN support available throughout the day
  • Patient volume: 20-30 patients per day, Monday through Friday
  • Special procedures include SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy)

Patient Diagnoses

  • Breast, Lung, Brain, Extremity, Skin, Electron, Prostate, Gynecologic, Pelvis, Genitourinary, Pancreatic, Esophageal cancers

Orientation & Training

  • No orientation or Dimensions training required prior to start; can start directly at clinic
  • Brief hospital orientation provided onsite
  • Radiation badge provided if required

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry checks required within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or PAPR training required
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Various facility-specific documents and agreements must be completed prior to start
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs: Royal Blue (not provided)
  • Floating includes coverage at nearby Novant Health Radiation Oncology locations
  • Strict policy on time off (RTO) after booking; excessive call-offs may lead to contract cancellation
  • Candidates must be prepared for possible shift changes and floating assignments based on clinic needs

This position is ideal for radiation therapists with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working in a dynamic outpatient oncology setting with advanced radiation therapy technologies and are flexible with floating between sites. Prior travel experience is not required.
