Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MS Oncology

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical Oncology (MS Oncology)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required in specialty
  • No first-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience required)
  • Charting system: Epic experience required
  • Patient ratio: 1:6
  • Weekend shifts: Required for half of the contract duration
  • Float required (ability to work in different units as needed)
  • BLS certification required; NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Unit details:
    • 6 North unit is a combined medical-surgical and oncology/hematology unit with telemetry capability
    • 36 private rooms (18 medical-surgical, 18 oncology)
    • Patient population ranges from young adults to geriatrics with oncology and hematology conditions
    • May receive general medical/surgical overflow patients

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required as applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required as applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required as applicable
  • Chemotherapy certification - required as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required as applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - required as applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification - preferred
  • State RN License - primary source verification required
  • NURSYS Verification required

Required Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online version acceptable)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Annual completion of Core Parts I, II, and III (for subcontractors)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire within 90 days of start (if positive TB test)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required (no declinations accepted)

  • Various internal attestations and compliance documents required

Additional Notes

  • No local candidates from specified counties are accepted (counties listed in original description)
  • Prior travel experience is required; no first-time travelers accepted

  • Weekend shifts required for half of the contract duration

This position is ideal for experienced oncology RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable working in a mixed medical-surgical and oncology unit with telemetry.
