Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)


Job Overview

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Duration: 13 to 26 weeks accepted
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Hours: 36 hours per week can be offered
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
  • Floating: Required as needed, potential to float every shift
  • Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend)
  • Additional: Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years Registered Nurse experience (higher value confirmed)
  • Traveler Experience: First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience
    • Interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring
    • Pre/Post Cardiac Cath and Cardiac Surgery experience
    • Sheath removal
    • Accessing ports
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line and PICC line care/management
    • Cardiac drip titration (Diltiazem, Amiodarone)
    • Post cardiac cath care
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Charge nurse experience
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • NIH Stroke Certification

Unit & Patient Details

  • Unit Type: Cardiac monitoring unit
  • Patient Diagnoses: Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, Post cardiac cath
  • Special Procedures:
    • Cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine, etc.)
    • Sheath pulls, TR Bands, Femstop
  • Systems Used: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Not provided (Navy color recommended)

Compliance & Testing Requirements

  • EKG Testing: Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 90 days for all locations lived in last 7 years
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days
    • Education verification for highest degree earned (pending verification allowed if license valid)
    • State-specific registry and exclusion list checks within 90 days
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
    • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Required immunizations/titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
    • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Competency Exams:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with minimum 82% score (3 attempts allowed)
    • Medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
    • Color blind testing within 1 year
  • Other:
    • Must pass all required facility-specific orientation modules (up to 8 hours)
    • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation prior to start
    • Must sign confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific documents

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) Policy: No RTO after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling per unit needs
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel acute care RNs
  • Performance Evaluation: Required if worked with Aya over 1 year, updated annually

Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome. The role requires flexibility with floating and weekend shifts, as well as readiness to respond to emergency events.
