Description

Registered Nurse - Neuro Unit

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Unit & Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro Unit
  • Patient Diagnoses: General medicine with a focus on neurology
  • Ratios: 1:6
  • Shift: Night shift; 36 or 48 hours accepted (OT billed only after 48 hours)
  • Float Requirement: Yes, travelers float first
  • Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (approximately every other weekend)
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scheduling: Manager schedules
  • Scrubs: Not provided; navy blue required
  • Special Notes:
    • No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; max 7 days RTO for auto offer
    • Contract staff expected to work on Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
    • Consolidation to centralized office and reassignment possible mid-contract

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years Registered Nurse experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; 1st time travelers accepted
  • Preferred:
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • Neuro experience preferred
    • Experience or willingness to learn charge nurse role preferred
  • Skills: Teamwork approach to patient care, focus on patient safety

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Testing & Competencies

  • Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency testing prior to start
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing within 1 year of start required
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM) as applicable based on unit requirements

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background checks within 90 days for all locations lived in last 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days
  • Education verification for highest degree earned (pending verification allowed for RNs with valid license)
  • State-specific searches (North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance) within 90 days
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel drug screen required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per travel placement requirements
  • Immunizations/titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption
  • Flu vaccination or exemption required annually during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
  • Must complete Medication Safety training and submit certificate of completion
  • Must sign confidentiality agreement, job description, hospital policies, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and other facility-specific documents
  • Photo for badge required prior to start (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Must complete Corp ID process including logging into I-Learn within 24 hours of receiving credentials
  • May be required to complete additional modules or training depending on assigned unit

Additional Notes

  • Travelers may be required to work in multiple units or be reassigned during contract
  • Must be prepared to work in disaster or mass casualty situations as part of Storm/Hurricane Teams
  • 5-6 weekend shifts required, equating to roughly every other weekend
  • Navy blue scrubs required; not provided by facility

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience, preferably with neuro skills or interest, who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and willing to participate in emergency response teams. Prior travel experience is not required.
