Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximate)
Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week offered
Patient Population: Cardiac patients including Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, Post cardiac Cath


Job Details

  • Floating required as needed, potential to float every shift
  • Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (about every other weekend)
  • Contract staff expected to participate in Storm/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters
  • Patient care includes telemetry monitoring, cardiac drips (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine), sheath pulls, TR Bands, Femstop
  • Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Not provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring required
  • Experience with pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal
  • Skills in accessing ports, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care management
  • Cardiac drip titration experience with Diltiazem and Amiodarone
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
  • Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers accepted

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) recommended
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., CPI for ER/BH nurses, CHEMO, TNCC, PALS, NRP)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background checks within 90 days for all locations lived in last 7 years
  • Education verification for highest degree earned (RNs may start with pending verification if license is valid)
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (fit test within 1 year preferred)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually if past positive TB)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
  • Immunizations/titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
  • State-specific registry and exclusion list checks within 90 days prior to start (North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance)

Competency & Testing

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with a minimum passing score of 82% (3 attempts allowed)
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blindness test within 1 year required
  • Other competency exams depending on specialty/unit

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs may lead to cancellation
  • Contract staff must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules (up to 8 hours) prior to start
  • Candidates must complete facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, and dress code acknowledgements
  • Candidates will be assigned a corporate ID and must complete I-Learn account setup prior to start
  • Radiation badges required for certain specialties (e.g., Cath Lab, Radiology)
  • Candidates must submit a passport-style photo for badge creation prior to start

This position is ideal for nurses with cardiac telemetry experience seeking a 13-26 week travel contract on night shift with a reputable healthcare system in North Carolina. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome. Floating every shift is a possibility, and weekend work is expected approximately every other weekend.
