Description

Registered Nurse - House Supervisor RN (Night Shift)

Location: Saint Paul, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Lead nurse on the night shift with responsibility for overseeing patient flow/throughput, staffing, and addressing patient and staff concerns.
  • Escalate barriers and issues to leadership as needed.
  • Shift hours: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4, Nights 1:5
  • Must work every third weekend
  • Charge Nurse experience required
  • No first-time travelers accepted
  • No local candidates accepted (must be outside 100-mile radius)
  • Pending license accepted
  • No on-call required
  • No floating outside scope of practice
  • No block schedule accommodation
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days

Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 1 year of specialty experience required (highest stated requirement)
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required (AHA or ARC only; RQI acceptable; certificate of completion not accepted)
  • Additional certifications may be required as applicable (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification, CWCN for wound care, etc.)—refer to unit-specific job description for details
  • Medication and competency exams required annually

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute Care Teaching Hospital with Level 3 Trauma designation
  • Total staffed beds: 317
  • Charting system: Epic (Excellian)
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Parking: Night shift parking free in ramp; day/evening shift parking fees apply

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Primary source verification of Minnesota RN license required
  • Criminal background check within 1 year required (7-year MN statewide search)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year
  • MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start (no starts with fingerprints pending unless approved "more time needed" letter)
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required
  • Drug testing (9 panel) within 1 year required but not for client clearance
  • Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety questionnaire) required prior to start for fit testing
  • References not required for client clearance but required for Per Diem candidates

Immunizations & Health Requirements

  • Adult Tdap required (no declinations accepted; exemptions accepted with approval)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months required (can pend at start with proof of test)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions for patient-facing roles
  • Hepatitis B: Positive IGG titer, proof of series, or signed declination required
  • Varicella: Positive IGG titer or 2 vaccines required; no medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted)

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of facility-specific online preorientation modules required within 72 hours of login (3-9 hours depending on specialty)
  • Badge photo (passport style) required within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Annual skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete MN DHS Net Study Questionnaire immediately after signing contract to initiate fingerprinting process
  • Candidates must complete all required background checks and health documentation prior to or shortly after start date
  • Facility is latex-free; notify if candidate has latex allergy
  • Candidates must be prepared to travel to a livescan fingerprint location if not within driving distance of Minnesota sites

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable leading night shifts in a busy acute care teaching hospital environment.
