Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (Travel/Contract)

Location: Carmel, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Surgical Services (CST - Certified Surgical Technologist)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Locals not accepted for this position
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Minimum Specialty Experience Required: 3 years
  • Certification Required: NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)

Department Details

  • Community hospital with 14 Operating Rooms
  • Surgical services include: General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, ENT, Orthopedics, Plastics, Spine, Robotics, and Pediatric surgery

Certification Requirements

  • NBSTSA certification is mandatory
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA NRP only
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) certification as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
  • State License verification required (Indiana license)

Background and Compliance Checks

  • Background Check within 90 days of start, including:
    • 7 years residence/work history
    • SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification
    • International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma verification required (official copies)
  • Education Verification by 3rd party

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted)
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score

Competency and Documentation

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required (not for Techs or RRTs)
  • Unit Competency Exam required
  • Skills Checklist within 12 months and annually
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (charge, manager, supervisor, or above)
  • Current Employment Application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days (7-year history required)

Additional Notes

  • Indiana RN travel restrictions effective 11/30/24 do not apply to Periop/OR RN’s, Allied positions (including this CST role), and Ambulatory RN travelers.
  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport required (clear copy)
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement and facility-specific compliance forms must be completed prior to start
  • On-site Fit Testing is limited and must be approved in advance if required
