Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Carmel, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
- Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts
- Patient Ratios: 1:2
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
- On-call: Not required
- Local Candidates: Not accepted
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: To be discussed
- License: Indiana state RN license and required certifications must be in hand before starting (no pending licenses accepted)
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts: 40 hours/week
- 3x12 hour shifts: 36 hours/week
- 4x12 hour shifts: 48 hours/week
Experience & Certifications
- Required Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Preferred Certification: CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)
Unit & Facility Information
- 14-bed ICU with open heart program and neurosurgery
- Stroke unit, Level 2 trauma unit
- ECMO stabilize and ship program
- STEMI, Manual Proning, Sepsis care
- Use of IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump) and CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- UST and RRT teams available
- Short-term acute care facility with 194 staffed beds
- Charting system: Cerner
- Free parking
- Scrub color: red top, black bottoms
Important Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24, except for Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Must comply with facility-specific scheduling and holiday requirements
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history criminal and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Unit competency exam
- Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific compliance checklists and confidentiality agreements (time sensitive)
- Completion of orientation packets and tests prior to start
- Proof of auto insurance required only for Hospice specialty (not applicable here)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with required certifications and a willingness to work a travel contract in Indiana with specific scheduling and holiday requirements.
