Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position requiring compliance with extensive credentialing, certification, and health documentation standards. The assignment is at a major healthcare system in Ohio.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting in a similar area to the pending assignment (based on employment application requirements).
  • No explicit mention of prior travel experience required.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates. Must be current at start.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for most clinical areas (e.g., ICU, Med/Surg, ER, Oncology, Pediatrics). Must be current at start.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, and NICU.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred but not required for ER.
  • State Nursing License: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start. License must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for multiple units including ICU, Neuro ICU, ER, Telemetry, and Stepdown units. Must be current.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing: Required for all nursing positions except OR.
  • Tech Cert Verification: Required for CVOR and related specialties.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for bedside RNs (except OR) during orientation.

Background and Compliance Checks

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Comprehensive background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results updated annually. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam. Must confirm ability to safely perform job functions.
  • Fit Mask (N95): Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Specific mask models required. PAPRs approved on a case-by-case basis.
  • Immunizations:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria) every 10 years.
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if history of positive TB. Annual TB questionnaire if applicable.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative or equivocal.
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation required.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative or equivocal.
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31). Declinations not accepted.
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025.

Onboarding and Training

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
  • Pass/Fail EKG and medication competency testing will be conducted onsite during orientation.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for review before orientation testing.

References and Employment History

  • Two professional references required from employment within the past year, from a manager, supervisor, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
  • Employment application must include 3 years of prior work history, with at least 2 years in acute care clinical practice relevant to the assignment.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

State-Specific Requirements (Ohio)

  • BCI and FBI fingerprinting results and attestation required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Fingerprints must be completed under nursing-specific code (4723.09).
  • Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
