Job Summary: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Walla Walla, Washington
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care / Level III Trauma Center

  • Unit: Mixed pediatric and adult Emergency Department (ED)

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years (2Y/1ST TIMERS OK)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
  • Other Certifications: Chemotherapy, Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), IV Certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), NIH Stroke Certification, CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) as applicable and verified by clinical track

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for Washington State
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Multi-State Licensed Nurses must complete Washington-specific demographic attestations if applicable

Required Health Documents

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start (signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO)
  • Fit Mask test (annual, onsite or valid record within 1 year)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
  • 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or declination during flu season
  • COVID vaccine or declination

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification for nursing degree (international education requires diploma/transcript)
  • WA State Patrol Search (WATCH/WSP) within 90 days of start, updated every 2 years for certain facility types
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within last 3 years
  • Employment application covering last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors) with month/year format
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units

Scheduling and Work Environment

  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed on all units
  • Parking: No fee
  • Expected to work every other weekend
  • No block scheduling or on-call required

Training and Competency Modules

  • Completion of Providence WorkRamp modules required prior to start, including:
    • Core modules for profession
    • Specialty-specific modules for ER RN
    • Annual regulatory requirements
    • Facility-specific modules as applicable
  • Epic training modules required and must be completed within orientation week

Additional Notes

  • Float policy acknowledgment required (may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance)
  • Physical exam does not need annual update unless assigned to Providence Health and Services – HCC hospital system
  • Fit mask types accepted include 3M 1860, 1860S, 1870+ (with some regional exceptions)
  • Drug screen must be 10 panel without THC/Marijuana for subcontractors
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates
  • References and employment history must be verifiable and meet specified criteria

This position is suitable for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of ER experience, comfortable working in a mixed pediatric/adult emergency department, and able to meet Providence Health and Services' comprehensive credentialing, compliance, and training requirements.
