Description

Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, 40 hours/week, every other weekend


Specialty & Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Psychiatric focus)

Patient Population & Diagnoses

  • Work with patients having any and all psychiatric diagnoses including but not limited to:
    • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
    • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
    • Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD)
    • Bipolar Disorder
    • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
    • Adjustment Disorder
    • Personality Disorders
    • Developmental Disorders (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Delay)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Preferred for Behavioral Health but not required for Behavioral Health RN
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, EFM, NIH Stroke, and Management of Assaultive Behavior may be required depending on specific unit or role but are generally not mandatory for this psychiatric RN role.

Uniform

  • Navy blue scrubs required

Clearance & Compliance Requirements

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Criminal Background Check within 30 days of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • State-specific exclusion list check (New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List) within 30 days of start and for extensions
  • NURSYS verification as applicable
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps)
  • Two references within last 2 years (one managerial)

Health & Immunization Documents

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer required)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required (on-site fit testing mandatory)
  • Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for applicable units (likely not required for psychiatric RN)
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication as applicable
  • Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Requirements

  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for Behavioral Health RNs (online portion must be completed by hire date; in-person portion within 14 days of start)
  • Facility-specific documents and attestations including floating policy, vendor medical clearance, and annual education
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements
