Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with specific Step-Down (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience. ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU experience requirement. Targeted patient ratios are 1:5-6.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience with some level 1 or 2 preferred.
- Must have documented 1:5 ratio experience in SD or PCU in work history.
- Prior travel experience preferred (not required).
Required Skills & Certifications
- EPIC experience.
- Ability to pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting.
- BLS and NIH Stroke Certification required; ACLS preferred. Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips.
- IV start skills required.
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the HRRU unit unless PAPR is offered/needed.
Floating & Scheduling
- Traveler will float at Premier's discretion within specialty clusters.
- Floating may include main campus and nearby campuses within 10-15 miles.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Premier Health reserves the right to cancel 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census and may cancel agreement with 2 weeks' notice without fee or fine.
- Travelers are not eligible for Premier Health employee incentives.
Unit Details
- Advanced Care Unit: Patients include heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal.
- Competency in running IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc. is required.
- Daily average census: 31 patients.
- Navy blue scrubs required.
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- I-9, E-Verify, Government Issued Photo ID required.
- 7-year criminal background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required.
- Fingerprinting required only for select units (not required for this assignment).
- Education verification and licensure primary source verification required.
- Ohio RN license required.
- NURSYS verification required.
- Physical exam within 2 years, fit to work and free of communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray required; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
- Required vaccinations or immunity documentation: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months, including marijuana panel.
- Respiratory safety clearance and medical questionnaire required prior to orientation.
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years, including 1 manager/supervisor/charge RN.
- Current resume/application required.
- Skills checklist within 1 year, updated annually.
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG (must pass with 80% or higher within 3 attempts), and unit-specific competency exams required.
Additional Notes
- Must submit Request Time Off (RTO) with initial application; no RTO added after offer.
- RTO approval at manager's discretion.
- Floating assignments will be medically appropriate.
This position is ideal for nurses with solid Step-Down or PCU experience looking for a 13-week travel contract in Ohio with a reputable health system. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
