Travel/Contract Job Opportunity: Surgical Services
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Surgical Services
- Shift: 12-hour day shift (6:15 AM - 6:45 PM) with on-call requirement
- Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in specialty (Surgical Services)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
- Unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Skills Required:
- Proficiency in all aspects of cardiovascular (CV) cases
- Experience working in a CVOR
- Additional proficiency in general surgery, kidney transplant, and robotics cases when CVOR volume is low
- On-Call: Required
- Emergency Team: Must be willing to stay at the facility during emergency events or be part of relief teams as assigned by unit manager
Licensure & Certifications
- Active Louisiana state license or Compact license required upon submission
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification of highest level required
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Employment application and skills checklist required, with annual updates
- Resume/application must include 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good physical health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (specific units only)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or completed vaccine series)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or booster)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccine series)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if positive
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments and potential extended stays at the facility
- Color photo for badge required within 24 hours of booking
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required depending on unit
- Competency exams specific to specialty required annually
- COVID-19 medical or religious exemption forms available if applicable
This position is ideal for experienced surgical services professionals with prior travel experience who are proficient in cardiovascular OR procedures and flexible to respond to emergency staffing needs.
