Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)
- Required Years of Experience: 3 years (with at least 1 year in Level 1 Trauma experience)
- Trauma Level I Experience: Required
- Circulate role required; Scrub preferred
- Must be well-rounded and current in most areas except Cardiovascular & Transplant (floating expected)
- Call required: 6 call shifts in a 6-week period (can vary)
- Weekend position: Every Saturday and Sunday plus one rotating weekday
- Holidays: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No block scheduling
- Locals accepted
- Pending license NOT accepted; must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand before submission
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs: Yes

Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable (verify per cost center)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable (verify per cost center)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - verify per cost center
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - verify per cost center
- NIH Stroke Certification - verify per cost center
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - verify per unit requirements
- State License Verification (Indiana RN license)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
Facility & Unit Information
- Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care
- Units: Core 3 & 4 (General, Plastic, GYN, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, GU, Colorectal Robotics)
- Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients
- Rooms: 21
- Charting System: Cerner
- Parking: Free

Licensure & Documentation Requirements
- Indiana RN license required and must be verified online within 30 days before start
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7 years residence/work history
- SSN Trace
- County, Statewide, National Sex Offender checks
- FACIS Level III
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Transcript/Diploma (official copy required; may be pending at start)
- Education Verification (third party; may be pending at start)
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted)
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment within 2 years, must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment Application: Current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually thereafter
- Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for
Additional Requirements
- Must complete IU Health mandatory RRT modules if applicable (22 modules, deadline prior to orientation)
- Must complete facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start
- Must complete Look of Assurance packet prior to start
- Must complete Self Study Orientation & Test and Fast Track Slide Packet and Signature Forms as applicable
Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN travelers and certain allied/ambulatory RN roles (including this OR RN position) who are exempt and allowed to work past this date.
- Travelers residing within Indiana may receive a bill rate adjustment (not relevant here).
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit requirement for prior travel experience; first-time travelers accepted.
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with trauma experience looking for a weekend-heavy travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma, short-term acute care setting.
