Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical (Operating Room)

Location: Saginaw, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Assess patient needs before and during surgical procedures, maintaining patient safety.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and document individualized care plans during surgery.
  • Provide leadership to the OR team and supervise room activities.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, OR team, supervisors, and ancillary departments.
  • Participate in staff development through preceptorship, in-services, educational meetings, and seminars.
  • Assist anesthesia as necessary and monitor sterile field.
  • Coordinate schedule changes and assemble equipment and supplies.

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN Operating Room (OR) experience (required).
  • Level 2 Trauma experience (required).
  • Proficiency in Orthopedics, Vascular, Neurosurgery, General/Gynecology, and Urology (required).
  • Recent travel work experience is highly preferred (not strictly required).

Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Michigan RN license (LARA and/or Nursys verification required).
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (required).

Documentation & References

  • Skills checklist relevant to Operating Room, current within 1 year (required).
  • Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years (required).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be within a 50-mile radius for contracts of 1-13 weeks (local candidates considered only for this contract length).
  • All scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application; no scheduling changes will be approved after offer.

Facility & Work Environment

  • 268-bed full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and Level II trauma center.
  • Comprehensive surgical care including specialty areas such as structural heart, stroke, spine, cancer, orthopedics, and women’s health.
  • Use of robotic-assisted technology and Epic EMR system.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue.

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with trauma experience seeking a temporary assignment in a busy surgical environment. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
