Job Description
- Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period if working 0.9 FTE; otherwise, added to the end of the contract.
- Travelers expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs.
- May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources provided.
- First-time travelers accepted; local candidates are NOT accepted.
- Floating to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) may be required; refusal to float may result in contract termination.
- Staffing ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 based on patient acuity.
- Unit focus: Post Cardiac Surgery and Post Vascular Surgery; strong cardiac/post-op heart experience required.
- COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory for all travelers (medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation).
- Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work past 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (as applicable)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - AHA only (as applicable)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., Chemotherapy, NIH Stroke Certification, Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
Required Skills and Experience
- Level 1 or Level II Trauma Experience
- Telemetry monitoring
- IV start skills
- Cardiac drips titration experience
- Strong cardiac/post-op heart experience is essential
Experience Requirements
- Specialty years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years in relevant specialty due to advanced skill requirements.
- Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted.
Staffing and Floating
- Floating to various units (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) may be required.

- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Immunizations and titers required:

- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended.
- Seasonal Flu vaccination required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted.
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year.
- TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within required timeframes.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.
- Color blind testing (Ishihara or equivalent) required.
- Unit competency exam required.
- HIPAA and safety manual acknowledgements required.
References and History
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment within 2 years.
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days.
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually.
Additional Notes
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport required.
- COVID vaccine declinations only accepted for medical or religious reasons with documentation.
- Indiana RNs not allowed to work past 11/30/24 except for certain specialties (Periop/OR, Allied, Ambulatory).
- On-site PAPR available at Methodist and University campuses with automatic approval.
- Mandatory completion of facility-specific orientation modules and compliance forms prior to start.
This position is ideal for RNs with strong cardiac and post-op surgical experience who are open to floating and working in a fast-paced, acute care environment. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
