Job Summary: Surgical Tech (Scrub) - Contract Position
Specialty
- Surgical Tech supporting a wide range of surgical specialties including:
- Robotics (DaVinci XI robot experience mandatory)
- Orthopedics (Total Joints: Hip, Knee, Shoulder, Arthroscopy - mandatory experience)
- Plastics (mandatory experience)
- Hand / Upper Extremity
- Vascular
- General Surgery
- Urology (GU cystoscopy)
- Gynecology (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy)
- ENT (including Pediatric ENT)
- Ophthalmology
- Breast surgery
Location & Facility
- Facility with 60 beds, Level 3 Trauma center
- Brand new ORs with state-of-the-art equipment including Stryker integration
- Floating required to a surgery center located 2.2 miles from the hospital
Contract Length
- 18 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of specialty experience
- Prior travel experience required
Certifications
- Surgical Tech: National certification preferred but not required
- BLS certification required
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare OR suites: verify case carts, instruments, implants, equipment, and supplies
- Maintain strict aseptic technique; perform surgical scrub duties including gowning/gloving and draping
- Manage instruments and anticipate surgeon needs across case mix (including robotics and total joints)
- Conduct accurate counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments; assist with specimen handling and documentation
- Support equipment setup and operation (robotic platforms, endoscopy towers, power tools, tourniquets, microscopes)
- Facilitate room turnover and readiness for next case; escalate equipment or quality issues promptly
- Uphold infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards (AORN, The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA)
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia, RNs, and other team members to maintain a high-reliability team culture
Schedule & Work Details
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (07:00 - 17:30) with possible 1-hour flex depending on case setup
- Alternating days off
- Call requirement: 1 weekend per month and once a week on call; every 5th weekend rotation
- Orientation: Two 10-hour shifts
- No holiday work expected unless on rotation
