Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Clinical Educator RN - SICU)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Clinical Educator RN for Surgical/Transplant ICU (SICU)
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 40 hours weekly
  • Focus: ICU experience with educator role; will have an educator partner
  • Facility Type: Academic teaching hospital

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure: Must have a valid DC nursing license in hand
  • Education:
    • BSN required
    • MSN preferred
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA or ARC)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required
    • Specialty certification preferred but not required
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years clinical ICU experience preferred (minimum 2 years required)
    • At least 2 years of educator experience in a teaching hospital setting required
    • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment (prior travel experience required)
  • Skills:
    • Telemetry required
    • Ventilator experience preferred
  • EMR: Cerner required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Flu vaccine required (or approved medical/religious exemption)
  • May come into contact with COVID-19 patients
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the past year, updated annually
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually (does not include marijuana)
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Required immunizations or titers:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
    • Varicella
    • Tdap within 10 years preferred

Background & Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification of highest degree required
  • Employment history verification: minimum 2 years of experience in past 7 years, including at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience in the last 3 years
  • Completion of facility-specific modules and attestations prior to start

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher) within 3 years of start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with specific scoring requirements, updated annually
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person) required

Additional Notes

  • Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
  • Must comply with all facility-specific documentation and attestations prior to start
  • This is a travel contract position requiring prior travel experience

This opportunity is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with educator experience who have completed at least one prior travel assignment and hold the necessary certifications and licensure for DC.
