Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (RRT / Pediatrics)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with Pediatrics focus
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities required
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- Pediatric Experience: Required experience with pediatric, neonate, and infant patients
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- First-timers: Accepted
- Certifications Required:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Licenses:
- NBRC certification accepted
- South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (RCP) license required at start
- Preferred:
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Scheduling & Other Requirements
- Open to block scheduling with prior approval (not guaranteed)
- Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
- State license must be active and in hand at start
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history with SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
- Color blindness testing prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge
Health & Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray follow-up
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug-April)
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Certifications & Competencies Notes
- ACLS certification is not required for pediatric units but may be required for other units
- BLS must be current and from AHA or ARC
- PALS required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR (preferred there)
- NRP must be through AHA/AAP with full eCard and QR code
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) not required for ER RNs
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required for Labor & Delivery, preferred for Mother/Baby units
- State license primary source verification required, must be active and unencumbered
- Specialty-specific tech certifications required as applicable
Additional Notes
- Travelers must upload all required certifications and health documents prior to start
- Facility may deny start if certifications expire within 30 days of assignment start date
- Radiation badge required only for specific roles (not applicable for this position)
- Emergency preparedness during hurricane season may affect assignment availability and scheduling
