Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Paramus, New Jersey
Contract Length: 15 weeks


Job Description

  • Floating required to ICU, IMC, and helping hands as needed
  • No December starts
  • Must have NJ or Compact state nursing license
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
  • Experience with ECMO and Open Heart procedures required

Required Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse

  • Immunizations and health documents required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray
    • Proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody or declination
    • Varicella vaccinations or positive titer
    • Flu vaccination (mandatory, no declinations accepted)
    • COVID-19 vaccination series and booster (mandatory, no declinations accepted)
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 72 hours of contract signing

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Pass/fail testing onsite for telemetry and medication competency (80% minimum score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually (80% pass rate) except for certain units
  • Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) annually with 80% passing score covering:
    • National Patient Safety
    • HIPAA
    • OSHA topics (Body Mechanics, Emergency Management, Environmental Safety, Fire Safety, Hazardous Chemicals)
    • Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens
    • Age-specific patient care
    • Cultural Competence, Ethics, Patient Rights, Abuse, Pain Management, Restraints, Sexual Harassment, Workplace Violence
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam annually (80% pass rate)
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test) within 1 year of assignment start

References & Work History

  • Two professional references required:
    • One supervisory reference from within 12 months
    • One professional reference from within 3 years
  • Employment history verification for the last 7 years required
  • Updated resume including last 7 years of employment with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Floating between ICU, IMC, and other units as needed
  • Local rate applies within 75 miles of facility (not relevant for pay details here)
  • No starts allowed during specified blackout dates (e.g., late November and December holidays)

This position requires a highly qualified RN with critical care experience, strong compliance with health and safety documentation, and the ability to float across multiple units.
