Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ED)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Work Setting: Urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department; teaching hospital preferred
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for ER clinical candidates

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI can possibly be completed onsite twice per month

Candidate Requirements

  • Must have prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma ED
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Must meet all background checks and verifications including education and licensure
  • Must provide a valid driver’s license or state ID
  • Must complete facility orientation modules prior to start
  • Must provide a passport-style photo for badge
  • Must complete all required health documents and immunizations (see below)

Health & Immunization Requirements (Time Sensitive)

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask types required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or declination (within 2 business days of contract signing)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 2 business days of contract signing)
  • TB questionnaire if positive TB test
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start date
  • Flu seasonal vaccination/documentation or approved medical/religious exemption (for 2025-26 season)

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, criminal, federal, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification for highest level of education (ADN or BSN required)
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Employment verification covering last 7 years
  • Skills checklist updated annually for assigned and float units
  • References: Minimum 2 required
  • Employment application including explanation of any gaps longer than 30 days

State-Specific Requirements (Illinois)

  • Fingerprinting and addition to Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Health Care Worker Registry required if position does not require an Illinois state license
  • Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois no later than the Monday before start date

Additional Notes

  • COVID-19 and Influenza vaccine religious and medical exemption forms are available but require facility approval and must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date
  • Candidates must complete facility orientation modules (~2 hours) before clearance/start
  • All documentation and verifications must be completed timely to avoid delays or removal from schedule

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in a high-acuity, urban Level I Trauma ED setting who are comfortable with floating and weekend shifts. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
