Description

Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (urban, Level I Trauma ED experience required; teaching hospital experience preferred)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for ER clinical candidates

Preferred Certifications

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI can be completed onsite twice per month if needed

Experience & Skills

  • Must have prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skills checklist required for assigned and float units (updated annually)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS III
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (ADN or BSN required)
  • Illinois Department of Public Health Fingerprint Registry (if no Illinois state license required)

Health & Immunization

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (3M 1860, 1870+, or 9205+ masks)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination or declination (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB questionnaire if positive TB test
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation or approved medical/religious exemption

Facility Specific

  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background)
  • Completion of facility orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start
  • COVID-19 and Influenza religious or medical exemption forms if applicable

Employment History & Verification

  • Current resume covering last 7 years of employment
  • Explanation required for any employment gaps over 30 days
  • Employment verification for 7 years required
  • Two professional references required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have at least 1 year of experience in the specialty or comparable/higher acuity area
  • Must meet all certification and health requirements prior to start
  • Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois if required
  • No pending licenses accepted
  • Floating to other units required

This position is ideal for RNs with emergency room experience in a high-acuity, urban trauma setting who meet certification and health compliance standards and are available for a 13-week travel contract.
