Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Details

  • Unit: Emergency Room (Level I Trauma, urban setting)
  • Ratios: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Must have prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department
    • Experience in a teaching hospital preferred
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for ER clinical candidates

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI can possibly be completed onsite twice per month

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, criminal, federal, and education verification
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: ADN or BSN required; diploma/transcripts acceptable if verification unavailable
  • State License Verification: Must be verified within 30 days of assignment start
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start for RNs
  • Fingerprinting: Required only if position does not require an Illinois state license; must be done in Illinois
  • References: 2 references required
  • Employment History: Verification of last 7 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained
  • Skills Checklist: Required annually for assigned and float units

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start (specific mask models required)
  • Immunizations & Titers: Must be completed within 2 business days of contract signing
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu Vaccination: Required for 2025-26 season unless approved medical or religious exemption is on file

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with plain background, forward-facing, no headgear
  • Orientation Modules: Approximately 2 hours, must be completed before start
  • COVID-19 & Influenza Exemption Forms: Facility-specific religious and medical exemption forms available; must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date

This is a travel/contract RN position in an urban Level I Trauma Emergency Department requiring at least 1 year of ER experience. Candidates must hold current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, and CPI certifications, with TNCC preferred. The role requires weekend and floating availability, with charting done in Epic.
