Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (urban, Level I Trauma ED experience required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for ER clinical candidates

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI can possibly be completed onsite twice per month

Experience & Requirements

  • Must have prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in the specialty or comparable/higher acuity
  • Skills checklist required for assigned and float units (updated annually)

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year background check including aliases and multiple databases
  • Education verification (ADN or BSN required)
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of assignment start
  • NURSYS verification for RN licenses within 30 days of start
  • Employment verification covering last 7 years
  • References: 2 required
  • Employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask models required)
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers (must be completed within 2 business days of contract signing):
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB)
    • TB questionnaire (if applicable)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation or approved medical/religious exemption required

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background, no headgear)
  • Completion of facility orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start
  • COVID-19 and Influenza religious or medical exemption forms available; must be submitted and approved at least one week prior to documentation due date

Licensing & State Specific

  • Illinois Department of Public Health fingerprinting required for candidates without an Illinois state license
  • Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois no later than the Monday before start date

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level I Trauma urban Emergency Department with a supportive team and a structured schedule. Candidates must meet all certification, health, and background requirements to be eligible.
