Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ED)
  • Required Years of Experience: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
  • Work Setting: Urban, Level I Trauma ED (experience in this setting required)
  • Preferred Experience: Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for ER clinical candidates

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI can possibly be completed onsite twice per month

Licensure & Verification

  • Must have an active RN license
  • Primary source license verification required within 30 days of assignment start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of assignment start

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, criminal, federal, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required (ADN or BSN minimum)
  • Fingerprinting required for candidates without an Illinois state license (must be done in Illinois)
  • 2 professional references required
  • Employment verification covering last 7 years required
  • Skills checklist for assigned and float units, updated annually

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask models required)
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers required within 2 business days of contract signing:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if positive TB)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Flu seasonal vaccination/documentation required or approved exemption
  • COVID-19 religious and medical exemption forms available (approval process may take up to 1 week)

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge required (passport style, plain background, no headgear)
  • Facility orientation modules (~2 hours) must be completed before start
  • Employment application with detailed 7-year work history and explanation of any gaps required
  • Must meet Aya standard for references and verifications

This position is ideal for nurses with at least 1 year of ER experience in a Level I Trauma urban setting who are comfortable with weekend shifts and floating. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
