Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Ortho Experience Required)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience required.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted if they have EPIC experience.
  • Certifications:
    • Required: BCLS, NIH Stroke Certification
    • Preferred: ACLS, Charge Nurse Experience, Level I Trauma Experience
  • Skills: IV Start, Telemetry
  • Float Requirement: Must be willing to float to other med-surg units as needed.
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts (36 or 48 hours offered; no OT until after 48 hours if accepting 48 hours)
  • Patient Ratio: Typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required; missed weekends must be made up.
  • Holiday Time Off: No holiday RTO (request time off) approved.
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
  • Patient Population: Orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, post-surgical patients
  • Unit Environment: Fast-paced unit focused on ortho and spine patients with pain management needs

Important Notes

  • Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Excessive call-offs or RTO may lead to cancellation and Do Not Rehire status.
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start.
  • COVID patients are no longer cohorted; they are cared for on all units unless in ICU.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks within 6 months required (SSN trace, nationwide search, sex offender search, etc.)
  • Drug testing (9-panel) within 6 months required
  • Various health documents required including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Competency exams including medication test, color blindness test, dysrhythmia/EKG exam (must score 82% or higher)
  • Education verification and licensure verification required
  • Photo for badge (passport style, white background) must be submitted promptly after signing contract
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and training modules required (e.g., Medication Safety, Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation)
  • Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required

Additional Certifications & Training (If Applicable)

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) for ER and Behavioral Health nurses
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) if required
  • Chemotherapy certification if applicable
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) if applicable
