Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (IR RN) - Columbia, South Carolina
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (IR RN)

- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule:
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM), Monday through Friday with a rotating day off
- Weekday and weekend call required (approximately every 10th weekend and about 2 weeknights every 6 weeks)
Experience Requirements

Certifications & Licenses Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS): AHA, RQI, or ARC only; must be instructor-led (no online-only cards); valid and cannot expire within 30 days of start.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required for IR RN and related units; AHA or ARC only; valid and cannot expire within 30 days of start.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Required if working with pediatric units; AHA or ARC only; valid and cannot expire within 30 days of start.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Required if applicable; AHA only; valid and cannot expire within 30 days of start.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required for ER/ED and Pediatric ER travelers; valid and cannot expire during assignment.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): AWHONN required as applicable.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI): Required for ER/ED, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs; must be valid for entire assignment.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required annually for ICU, Neuro ICU, ER, and related units; cannot expire within 30 days of start.
- State RN License: Primary source verification required; must be valid and cannot expire within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS Verification: Must show all licenses and authorization to work in South Carolina.
- Other Certifications:
- STABLE (for L&D and NICU RNs)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue or equivalent for applicable units
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required for RNs in certain units
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA, OSHA/TJC training)
- IV Certification (for LVN/LPN if applicable)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Background Check:
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start required
- Includes SS trace, aliases, state and county searches for all states/counties lived or worked in last 7 years
- Federal searches (HHS/OIG, EPLS/GSA/SAM) required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- FACIS Level 3 search required
- International searches if candidate lived/worked outside the US in last 7 years
- Drug Testing: 5-panel drug screen within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Fingerprinting: Required for certain professionals without 12 months proof of residency; state-specific requirements apply.
- E-Verify: Required or attestation.
- Education Verification: Highest level of education must be verified; diplomas not accepted as placeholders.
- Physical Exam: Physician’s statement within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Immunizations & Health Documents:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for high-risk areas)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Annual TB Questionnaire
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B: Vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required by deadlines (not required for remote workers)
Orientation & Testing
- Online Orientation Modules: Must be completed within 72 hours of assignment; required before start.
- Pre-Assignment Testing: Must be completed within 72 hours of receiving login; includes medication and arrhythmia tests; two attempts allowed.
- EKG Practice Test and Study Guide: Required for RNs except Behavioral Health, LTC, MS, OR, and Transitional Care.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for RNs in specific units; passing score 84%; two attempts allowed; no remediation.
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology competency and other annual competency exams required.
- Core Training Parts I, II, III: Annual training including universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, etc.
Additional Requirements
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with specific background and lighting requirements.
- Floating Policy: Must be signed by all clinical candidates.
- Contractor Acknowledgment: Must be signed within 24 hours of contract signing.
- Performance Evaluations: Required if worked with agency over 1 year.
- Skills Checklist: Required for qualification.
- Internal Evaluation: Required annually if worked with agency over 1 year.
Work Environment Notes
- Facility is latex-free.
- Respirator fit test (N95) completed onsite during orientation.
- Call schedule includes about every 10th weekend and 2 weeknights every 6 weeks.
This position requires a well-prepared RN with all certifications current and valid, compliance with extensive background and health documentation, and readiness to complete required orientation and testing within strict timelines.
