Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) - Operating Room (Days)

Location: Midland, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary Contract
Contract Length: 6 weeks


Job Description

  • Prepare the surgical suite by assisting the surgical technologist and registered nurse with gathering equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Ensure all supplies and equipment are available and in working condition for procedures.
  • Assist the surgeon during operations by providing exposure, aiding in hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions.
  • Perform tasks such as draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, suturing, tissue handling, cautery techniques, and applying appropriate dressing materials.
  • Work collaboratively within the operating room team concept.
  • Assist with patient transportation, positioning, and total care as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) experience required.
  • Certification:
    • Active certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).
    • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Documentation:
    • Work history and skills checklist current to within 1 year, relevant to CSFA specialty.
    • Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years.
  • Preferred: Prior travel assignment history is preferred but not required.
  • Other: Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility (local candidates will not be considered).

  • EMR system used: Epic
  • Dress code: Hospital-provided scrubs
  • Facility offers a broad range of primary and specialty care services, including 24-hour emergency and Level II trauma care.

This position is ideal for experienced Certified Surgical First Assistants seeking a short-term assignment in a well-equipped hospital setting.
