Description

Job Opportunity: Cardiac Surgery Tech (Operating Room)

Location: Corvallis, Oregon
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Function as a surgical team member in the operating room under RN supervision.
  • Primary focus on cardiac open heart surgery.
  • Ability to assist in all areas of the OR as needed.
  • Provide care to patients of all ages, including pediatrics and geriatrics.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team caring for surgical and procedural sedation patients.

Department Description

  • Operating Room specializing in cardiac care.
  • Patient population includes pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and elderly.
  • Services include same-day discharge and inpatient surgical care.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Cardiac experience is required.

  • Current certification to practice surgical technology in Oregon.

  • Must meet one of the following education/experience options:

    Option 1:

    • Completion of a surgical technologist training program in the U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Public Health Service.
    • 16 hours of relevant continuing education every 2 years.

    Option 2:

    • Completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited surgical technology education program.
    • Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or recent completion (within 12 months) of the accredited program.

    Option 3:

    • At least 2 years of surgical technology practice between 2014 and 2017 in a hospital, ambulatory surgical center, or federal agency.
    • 16 hours of relevant continuing education every 2 years.
    • Experience Requirements:
      • 1 year scrubbing in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)/Open Heart procedures OR
      • 2 years acute care scrubbing experience.
  • Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

  • Experience or training in computer applications preferred.

  • Specialty: Surgical Technology with cardiac experience.
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years (based on Option 3 and cardiac scrubbing experience).
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.

Additional Notes

  • Must be able to assist in various OR areas beyond cardiac surgery as needed.
  • BLS/BCLS certification is mandatory.
