Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 4x10 hour days, 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM
- On-Call: Yes, 1 call per week and 1 late shift, plus 1 to 2 weekends every 6 weeks (may change based on staffing needs)
- Weekend Requirement: 1 to 2 weekends every 6 weeks (covered in call requirement)
- Floating: Yes, may float between service lines and possibly to sister facilities
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 3+ years preferred
- First-Timers: Not accepted
- National Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certification only
- NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) – MUSC does NOT accept NCCT
- Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency (facility does NOT provide radiation badges)

Important Notes
- Hurricane Season: Assignments during June-November may require participation in emergency response teams. Peak months are August and September. Candidates should consider this before accepting new or extended assignments.
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form required
- Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include SSN trace, county/statewide checks, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, employment and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholders if verification is pending
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the unit to be worked in
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified through a 3rd party vendor
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS: AHA only, required for all RNs (check unit-specific requirements)
- BLS: AHA only, required for all clinical staff
- PALS: AHA only, required for ER only
- NRP: Must be through AHA/AAP, full eCard with QR code required
- TNCC: Required as applicable (not required for ER RNs)
- EFM: AWHONN or NCC acceptable
- Tech Cert Verification: Required for allied professionals (non-RN/LPN)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required
- State License: South Carolina license required; primary source verification required
- NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- IV Certification: Required for select LPNs as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and as applicable
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable

Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually; must attest ability to meet physical demands without restrictions
- Fit Mask: Fit test done onsite during orientation; no need to provide prior fit test
- Tdap: Required within 10 years of start or declination form must be completed
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; follow-up for positive tests required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; low titers require boosters
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- RespSafety Clearance: Annual medical clearance for respirator use required
Facility Specific Requirements
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, cropped from shoulders up
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
- Job Description: Unit-specific job description must be signed prior to start
- Employee Info, Confidentiality & Security Agreement, Contractor Forms, ID Badge Request: Must be completed prior to start
- Physical Assessment for Sterile Processors: Required if applicable, completed and signed by licensed provider within 1 year
