Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Interventional Radiology

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for Interventional Radiology with experience in conscious sedation, telemetry, and understanding of IR procedures including stroke. This is a travel contract position with a 4x10 hour shift schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.


Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in the specialty.
  • Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are accepted.

Certifications

  • Required: ACLS, BCLS, NIH Stroke Certification (annual completion required).
  • Preferred: PALS, experience with circulating and ventilators.

Skills

  • Understanding of Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures including stroke care.

Work Details

  • Target workload: 16 cases per day across three IR rooms, with pre- and post-procedure coverage in Radiology Pre Post Unit (RPPU) as needed.
  • Shift: 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM), Monday through Friday.
  • Call Requirement:
    • Must be able to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes when on call.
    • Call rotation includes 8 call days in a 10-12 week period, including one primary call day on Thursday and backup call for one week.
    • Weekend call is 24 hours (7:00 AM Saturday to 7:00 AM Sunday) on a rotational basis.
    • Call coverage is for emergencies and to wrap up the day.
    • No float requirement.
  • Weekend work is required based on call rotation.

Patient Population

  • Tertiary care center with diverse patient diagnoses.

Unit & Systems

  • Unit systems include PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR.
  • Scheduling is managed by the unit manager.
  • Orientation: 8 hours of unit orientation plus hospital orientation during the first week; attendance at daily classes is mandatory.
  • Scrubs provided (ceil blue color).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Candidates must provide and maintain the following:

  • Background checks (including SSN trace, 7-year county residency, nationwide search, sex offender search).
  • Education verification and transcripts/diplomas as applicable.
  • Required certifications (ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Certification, etc.).
  • Competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start).
  • Health documents including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with documentation).
    • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
    • Drug testing within 6 months of start.
  • Facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and photo for badge.
  • Completion of required training modules including medication safety and non-Novant health worker orientation (approx. 8 hours).
  • N95 fit mask if applicable.

Additional Notes

  • EPIC test-out option available for experienced candidates with at least 6 months prior EPIC experience (optional).
  • Radiation badges required for certain specialties but not specified for this role.
  • Candidates must be prepared for a thorough onboarding process including multiple compliance and competency requirements.
