Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Fishers, Indiana

Job Description
- Work primarily in ICU with floating to PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
- Must be able to handle higher patient ratios
- Screen strong PCU RNs for floating assignments
- Must float between ICU and PCU as needed
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 3 years in ICU (may consider less depending on experience, but 3 years is preferred)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (first timers NOT accepted)
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- License:
- Pending license accepted
- Must be willing to obtain Indiana compact or temporary license prior to start
- Locals: Not accepted
- Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Shift Hours:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
- 3 shifts of 12 hours (36 hours/week)
- 4 shifts of 12 hours (48 hours/week)
Clinical Skills & Special Requirements
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Obtain and interpret 12 lead EKG/ECG
- Thermoregulation protocols (hypothermia/hyperthermia)
- Post cardiac surgery care (directly from OR)
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization/intervention care
- Sheath removal
- IV insulin protocols
- Management of chronic/acute renal failure
- Accessing/managing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Continuous IV paralytics and neuromuscular blockade
- Continuous IV sedation
- Emergency medication administration
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- CVA/acute stroke management
- Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun device use
- Assist with BiPAP and CPAP management
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- Care of ventilated patients
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Ventilator management
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
- Phlebotomy
- Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vac
Unit Information
- ICU unit with floating to PCU
- Patient diagnoses include ARDS, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, DKA, AKI, UTIs, acute shock
- RN must be able to handle higher patient ratios

- Type: Short-Term Acute Care
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Red tops, black bottoms

Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Official transcript or diploma required (may pend at start)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years)
- Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
Important Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Must be willing to comply with all facility-specific forms and orientation requirements prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills who are comfortable floating to PCU and managing complex patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be considered.
