Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist – NICU/Pediatrics (Travel/Contract)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Seeking Respiratory Therapists with prior NICU and Pediatrics experience only.
- Role involves working in a high-acuity NICU/PICU environment serving neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adolescents.
- Facility includes a 60-bed Level IIIB NICU and an 8-bed PICU.
- Units use advanced respiratory equipment such as high frequency jet ventilators, bubble CPAP, oscillators, RAM cannula, and NAVA.
- Floating within skillset required, including adult patients.
Schedule & Work Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 7 PM to 7 AM (4x12 shifts available upon request).
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block.
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract.
- Charting experience with EPIC required.
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
- Locals accepted under radius rule.
- Pending license accepted with temporary authorization while VA permanent license processes.
- Accepts first-time travelers; however, 1 year of travel experience preferred.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- CRT not accepted.
Required Clinical Skills & Experience
- Minimum Years of Experience: Prior NICU and pediatric experience required (exact years not specified, but must have prior NICU/Peds experience).
- Advanced ventilator management skills including HFJV, HF oscillator, Jet, Servo I, V60, 3100A/B, and Nitric systems.
- Skilled in troubleshooting high-pressure alarms and weaning from mechanical ventilation.
- Proficient in CPAP/NCPAP/BiPAP setup, extubation techniques, and all modes of invasive and non-invasive ventilation, including nitric oxide delivery.
- Experience in critical care settings such as high-volume ER, Level 1 Trauma Center, and Level 3 NICU.
Licensure
- Must be a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Virginia State Board of Medicine.
- Other state licenses accepted temporarily with 90-day temporary authorization while VA permanent license is issued.
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience not required, but 1 year of travel experience is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Required immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required.
- Two clinical references required.
- Complete application/resume and skills checklist updated annually.
- Compliance with facility-specific documents and orientation requirements.
