Job Opportunity: Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse or Tech (Contract)

Position Details

  • Primary Stroke Center

Facility Overview

  • 91 beds
  • 2 Cath Labs and 1 Hybrid Cath/EP Lab
  • Growing Cath Lab department with strong leadership support

Experience Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN): Minimum 3 years of Cath Lab experience
  • Technologist (Tech): 3-5 years of Cath Lab experience
  • First-time Travelers:
    • RN: Accepted
    • Tech: Accepted only with 5+ years Cath Lab experience in a large (200+ beds) facility
  • EP (Electrophysiology) experience preferred for both RN and Tech roles

Patient Types and Cases

  • Cath Lab cases include STEMI/NSTEMI, Angioplasty/Angiography, ASD, PFO, right/left heart Cath, thrombectomy
  • EP cases (e.g., pacemakers, generator changes, loop recorders, ICD lead revisions, cardioversions) occur approximately 1 day per week
  • Average daily cases range from 1 to 16 depending on the day

Certifications Required

  • RN: BLS, ACLS
  • Tech: CVT, BLS, ACLS
  • Preferred for Tech: RCIS, RTR (must have Cath Lab experience)

Skills Required

  • RN:
    • Monitor/circulate
    • Moderate/conscious sedation
    • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
    • Patient recovery after sedation
  • Tech:
    • Monitor, pan, scrub, sheath pull
    • Preferred: IABP assistance, EP, Rotor blade, PFO, knowledgeable in complex cases

Patient Ratios

  • 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio

Orientation

  • 2 days total
    • Day 1: Meeting with educator (badge, login, computer-based learning, compliance)
    • Day 2: Unit training with preceptor, tailored to experience and comfort level

Scheduling

  • Monday to Friday schedule, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Weekend rotation: On-call only, approximately every 4th weekend
  • On-call response time: 30 minutes required
  • Self-scheduling for on-call shifts following weekday/weekend guidelines

COVID-19 & PPE Protocol

  • Patients tested on the day of or 24 hours prior to procedure
  • Urgent/emergent cases tested in the Emergency Department
  • Staff required to wear full PPE until test results are known

Work Environment & Support

  • Support from manager, supervisor, educator, and other staff (techs and nurses)
  • No CRN (Clinical Resource Nurse) on unit
  • Bedside telemonitoring available
  • Charting systems: EPIC (preferred), Mac Lab (preferred), Alaris and Pyxis (RNs only)
  • Floating to EP unit if experienced
