Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg/Telemetry (Days)

Location: Owosso, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will work under supervision and be responsible for patient teaching, guiding ancillary personnel, and maintaining professional nursing standards. The role requires flexibility, responsiveness, and a strong focus on patient and family experience.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop written care plans within 24 hours of admission.
  • Implement and document care plan effectiveness, revising as needed at least every 24 hours.
  • Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
  • Promote patient independence through education on conditions, medications, and self-care.
  • Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve patient problems and needs.
  • Follow infection control policies, medication administration procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintain continuity of care through effective communication and documentation.
  • Utilize leadership skills to delegate and evaluate team members.
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient status with appropriate interventions.
  • Provide ongoing patient and family education based on daily assessments.
  • Prioritize care based on individual patient needs.
  • Initiate referrals for discharge planning in collaboration with case management.
  • Participate in continuing education, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient safety, equipment use, and hospital policies.
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles.

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2+ years of Med Surg experience (highest required years of experience).
  • Experience floating to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Required.
  • Proficient with Telemetry - Required.
  • Ability to read and interpret heart rhythms - Required. Must pass a dysrhythmia test prior to working on the floor.
  • Active Michigan RN license.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Work history and skills checklist relevant to Med Surg/Telemetry within the last year.
  • Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (exemptions allowed).
