Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room

Job Details

  • Unit: Emergency Room (Level I Trauma, Urban setting)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Experience Requirements:
    • Prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma Emergency Department required
    • Experience in a teaching hospital preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required (first-timers accepted)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating Requirement: Yes
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred Certifications:

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS 3, OFAC
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification:
    • ADN or BSN required
    • Diploma/transcripts accepted if verification unavailable
  • State License Verification:
    • Primary source verification within 30 days of assignment start
    • NURSYS verification for RNs within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting:
    • Required for candidates without Illinois state license; must be completed in Illinois before start
  • References: Minimum 2 references required
  • Employment History:
    • Resume covering last 7 years
    • Explanation required for gaps over 30 days
    • Employment verification for 7 years
  • Skills Checklist: Required and must be updated annually

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (3M 1860, 1870+, or 9205+ masks)
  • Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and Titers (must be completed within 2 business days of contract signing):
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual)
    • TB questionnaire if positive TB
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccine exemptions require facility-specific religious or medical exemption forms submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge required (passport style, plain background, forward facing, no headgear)
  • Facility orientation modules (~2 hours) must be completed before clearance/start
  • Must meet Aya standard for references and employment history
  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers accepted

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Emergency Department in an urban teaching hospital environment with a supportive team and structured scheduling.
