Description
Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day/Night rotation, every other weekend
- Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), approximately 36 hours per week
- On-Call: Required
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1-2
- Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred (not required)
- Certifications Required:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) – AHA certifications only
- Skills Required:
- IV Start
- Telemetry
- Ventilator management
- Intracranial Pressure Monitoring
- EHR Experience: Epic
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education Verification: Must be graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Licensure: State license verification required within 30 days of start
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- References: Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership
- Additional Required Documents:
- Employment application including education
- Skills checklist
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate (updated annually)
- Ethics and compliance policies acknowledgement (for new contracts)
Additional Notes
- Floating may require working in units with equivalent or lower acuity levels.
- Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to or shortly after start date.
- Candidates using a compact license from states other than Ohio must complete a residency declaration form.
