Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Nashua, New Hampshire
Specialty: Medical Surgical (Med/Surg)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide comprehensive nursing care to adolescent and adult patients with a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses, with a focus on orthopedic and neuro-spine post-operative care. The role involves working primarily on the 3 East unit, which includes orthopedic injuries, post-op total hip/knee replacements, neurosurgical procedures (ACDF, laminectomy, cervical), and general medical-surgical patients.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in Med/Surg or related field.
- No first-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience required).
- Charge nurse experience preferred.
Skills & Certifications
- Required:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- Stroke education (1 hour)
- New Hampshire state nursing license
- Epic electronic medical record experience (required)
- Skills: Peripheral line care/management, starting IVs, surgical drains
- Preferred:
- Charge nurse experience
- Additional certifications that may be required or preferred depending on unit:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
Work Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 48 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Floating: Required to float to like units including ICU, ED, and other Med/Surg units
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Orientation: 24 hours competency-based orientation to the 3 East patient population
- Scrubs: Any
Patient Population & Diagnoses
- General medical-surgical patients including GI bleed, cellulitis, detox, GI/respiratory issues
- Orthopedic injuries and post-op total hip/knee replacements
- Neurosurgical patients (ACDF, laminectomy, cervical spine)
Documentation & Systems
- Epic charting system (experience required)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start including:
- Social Security verification
- National sex offender registry
- Criminal searches (excluding NH counties; NH state police search required)
- Education verification
- Drug screen: 10-panel within 14 days prior to start
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (within last 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (True 2-Step PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination waiver
- Seasonal flu vaccination (required October 31 - April 1) or approved exemption
- Fit mask test annually (N95 or equivalent)
- Respiratory safety clearance questionnaire required
- Pass/fail dysrhythmia/ECG competency exam within 48 hours of contract signing (specific to unit)
- References: Two current professional references within last 3 years, including one supervisor or charge nurse
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Travelers who have previously worked for any facility associated with the health system are not eligible regardless of separation time.
- Floating includes a team nursing approach and may involve patient sitting duties.
- Facility requires completion of various authorizations and compliance attestations prior to start.
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines require specific documentation and approval.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg RNs with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable working night shifts and floating across multiple units in a fast-paced hospital environment.
